Adirondack Farm to School Initiative kicks off
The new Adirondack Farm to School Initiative aims to forge a stronger bond between schools, communities and local farms by rebuilding a healthy food system in the Adirondacks. The goal, according to a report in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, is to "enrich children's bodies and minds while supporting local economies, bringing local food into school cafeterias and creating hands-on learning activities such as schoolgardens, farm visits, culinary classes and the integration of food-relatededucation into the regular classroom curriculum."
The initiative kicked off June 6 with a party at Petrova Elementary School in Saranac Lake. To donate or get involved, contact Brittany Harris of the North Country Healthy Heart Network at (518) 897-5981.
